Hello guys, I hope you're all tired because you can't stop thinking about the possibility of starting your own business, so today I'm going to tell you about the behavior of a business owner, or at least the behavior a business owner should have.
Now-a-days there are lots of options the customers have to buy their products and services; a mistake can cost you an account. That's why we have to be really careful on the way we treat our valued customers, when I say valued I mean all of them, from the one that buys a lot to the one that doesn't buy that much.
I like to "Vape" (E-cigarettes) and a couple of months ago I went to buy a battery at a store that just opened and I wanted to support because it's close to my home. When I got in, the owner was talking on the phone and took over two minutes to end the call and say hi. I knew what kind of battery I wanted but he tried to upsell me more expensive batteries, I don't say you shouldn't try to upsell but be careful when it's a new customer. Long story short, the battery that I bought was not working the next day, so I went again and when I told him that the battery was not working he got excited and started replying that it was good when I left the store. First mistake, you're not rude to a new customer, so when I explained to him that the battery didn't even have a day and that I paid with a credit card and I was going to make a claim, he didn't change his attitude and exchanged the battery, the results I never went back to his store.
You need to plan for different situations with your customers, I'm not saying that you need to be naive and allow everything to happen, because just like dishonest business owners there are dishonest customers that will try to take advantage of you, what I'm saying is that you have to be fair and understanding and treat each situation differently.
When you get into an agreement or a contract with a customer it’s very important that you do everything that you agree with, with the customer, my recommendation isa to do a little bit more. If it’s a big job (I will consider a big job if it’s over $500) you should make a contract, where you specify everything that is going to be done in details, discuss it with the customer, and allow them to make questions. I like to explain things like if I’m talking to a 5 year old, because sometimes we think people understood what we are telling them and in their minds the have a totally different story.
When I was in College at a Marketing class I learned that an angry customer tells around 30 people how bad your business is and those 30 people tell about 10 each, that means around 330 different persons talking bad about your business. How many times have you talked to someone about a business and they tell you how bad they treated a friend of them? In the other hand a happy customer tells approximately around 8 to 10 people and those rarely tell anybody else.
With that in mind it’s extremely important to treat your customers like kings and queens because they are the life of your business and at the end of the day you just want your service done right and your payment in the bank account, right?
